Starting My 30 Days Adventure of Writing about Suffering at Work
I recently signed up for Dickie Bush & Nicolas Cole's cohort-based course, Ship 30 for 30. My goal is to write for people who are suffering at workplaces to help them to ease such suffering. My hope is that they could gain a new perspective about themselves at workplaces and find the sense of wellbeing while working (it's possible to have both).
Why I am writing about this?
- Working at various tech companies (Apple, Facebook/Meta, and Microsoft) for ~20 years, I had so many small and big experiences of suffering at work. For most of the time while I was suffering, all the tips and advice that came toward me were pointing to the “hacks” and various kinds of self-improvement. No one really seemed to think that we didn’t have to suffer fundamentally at workplaces. I respectfully disagreed with that.
- My own suffering manifested in anxiety, burnout, and depression. I tried getting better with therapy, various mindfulness practices, and many other self-help practices, which helped me quite a bit; however, the workplace dynamic almost offset such positive effect. I wondered why.
- In my own searching for finding ways to ease suffering at work, I gained some insights, which helped me so much to work with a sense of wellbeing. I wanted to share with more people about this.
Over the next 30 days, I plan on writing about various kinds of suffering, how to meet such suffering, and how to ease our suffering at workplaces.
Join me on this adventure — and let me know if you have any questions along the way! I’m excited to start sharing on Suffering at Work!
